United Sports Technologies (UST), one of the world’s most innovative high-performance golf shaft companies, tallied win No. 18 for the year by capturing the World Golf Championships-NEC Invitation at the great Firestone Country Club course in Akron, Ohio. Matched up with a Nike Ignite driver (9.5°), UST’s HTD™ (Harmon Tour Design) shaft helped this year’s champion bring home the victory.
“With such a great field and a world-class golf course, winning the World Golf Championship is like winning a fifth major,” said Gene Simpson, vice president of marketing and sales for UST brands. “Winning once again reaffirms the confidence we had in Butch Harmon and his brothers when they assisted in the shaft design for the PGA Tour. As for the Reno-Tahoe Open and the Alberta Classic on the Nationwide Tour, finishing second in the count at both tournaments speaks well for the future.”
The $1.2 million purse won by this year’s champion at the 2004 World Championships-NEC Invitational set a new record for UST. It was the most money ever won with a UST-designed shaft in a non-Major tournament.
