FORT WORTH, Texas — Providing tighter shot dispersion and distance control, the IROD® Hybrid graphite shaft by United Sports Technologies (UST®) delivered a one- two punch this weekend, winning first and second-place at the Sybase Classic presented by Lincoln Mercury at Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, N.Y.
After multiple rain delays and an abbreviated 54-hole tournament, the IROD Hybrid claimed another LPGA victory of the 2006 season and continues to demonstrate why it quickly rocketed to be the No. 1 Hybrid shaft on the PGA Tour.
“The hybrid category is burning up the pro tours, and the IROD is the shaft design that lit the fire,” says Gene Simpson, vice president of sales and marketing for UST brands. “Record numbers of hybrids are being put in play and the IROD Hybrid has been one of the great success stories on the tours. At UST, we’re extremely pleased that the best players in the world recognize that true hybrid shafts, such as the IROD, feature very specific design characteristics which maximize hybrid club and long iron performance.”
The IROD Hybrid graphite shaft features Interlinked Carbon™, an innovative carbon fiber technology that has been combined with UST’s touted advancements in shaft tip design. Unlike the ‘invisible technologies’ of many graphite shafts, IROD’s custom-engineered carbon fiber material is clearly visible on the butt section of every shaft. As a part of new Interlinked Carbon technology, high modulus graphite fibers are specially woven to provide hoop strength and stiffness. Fibers running vertically provide stiffness while the fibers running at 90 degrees prevent the shaft from deforming or flattening under load.
