FORT WORTH, Texas — Three different graphite shaft brands, engineered by United Sports Technologies® (UST), provided superior distance, accuracy and hybrid performance to claim UST’s second consecutive victory at the BC Open and its third straight win on the PGA TOUR. Finishing with a second straight 6-under 66 on Sunday, this year’s champion maximized his shot performance using three different UST shaft brands, setting a new BC Open record with a 24-under 264 and winning his first PGA TOUR victory.
In only his second year on Tour, the BC Open champion won with a Harmon Tour Design (HTD®) shaft in his Titleist 983E driver, an Accra® SC75 shaft in this Titleist 904F 3-wood, and an IROD® Hybrid shaft in his TaylorMade Rescue FW hybrid club.
“With another win at the BC Open and our third straight PGA win in three weeks, UST shaft brands are once again reaffirming our reputation as one of the world’s most innovate, high-performance shaft companies in the world,” says Gene Simpson, vice president of sales and marketing of UST brands. “Our engineers have virtually revolutionized the graphite shaft industry with creative, high-performance designs that satisfy the demands of the best golfers in the world, and we’re clearly growing in popularity every day. In fact, UST shaft usage at the 2005 BC Open was up 39 percent over last year’s event.”
Among the three UST brands used to win the BC Open, the HTD graphite shafts have won acclaim on the professional tours for their distance and accuracy achieved through a combination of Tour-proven Proforce tip technology and a new ‘Counter Balance’ design. The HTD features an ‘active’ tip section that is torsionally stable to control the clubhead, but more flexible to provide some feel and kick at impact. Premium ACCRA shafts are a culmination of high modulus materials, creating a patent-pending blend of low torque engineering and a soft tip design that provides skilled players with the launch conditions they need to maximize their carry distance. While, the IROD Hybrid graphite shaft — No. 1 Hybrid shaft on the PGA TOUR — features custom-engineered Interlinked Carbon™, an innovative carbon fiber technology that is specially woven to provide hoop strength and stiffness. The IROD Hybrid shafts are available as a driver, fairway wood and long iron designs.
