UST Mamiya Names Michael Guerrette Senior Director of Research and Development

(FORT WORTH, TX) – UST Mamiya – maker of the world’s finest carbon fiber golf shafts – has named industry veteran Michael Guerrette as Senior Director of Research and Development.

Responsible for new materials and process applications, product design, prototype samples and product testing, Guerrette further bolsters UST Mamiya’s industry-leading development team. His duties also include managing product engineering staff and processes to ensure quick throughput and cost-efficient design for ready and consistent production. In addition, he will work closely with Tour players to gather feedback for the development of new high performance shaft concepts.

"Michael Guerrette is tremendously talented, well-respected and the ideal fit for UST Mamiya,” says Gene Simpson, COO of UST Mamiya. “His knowledge and experience are sure to push the creative boundaries of our company in new and exciting directions and even greater heights.”

Guerrette – most recently Senior Design Engineer for Adams Golf – brings 20 years experience in project and systems engineering to UST Mamiya. Positions with TaylorMade-adidas Golf, General Electric and Raytheon honed Guerrette’s aeronautical-engineering applications to golf.

"This is a thrilling opportunity, as UST Mamiya is consistently at the forefront of golf shaft innovation,” says Guerrette. “The company’s award-winning shafts are ground-breaking and, most important, golfers realize better performance with UST Mamiya shafts in their clubs.”

Likened to the precision of automaker Lexus, all UST Mamiya shafts are unrivaled in quality and performance attributed to world-class design engineering, premium-selected raw materials and precise handcrafted, repeatable production techniques. Tight tolerances, coupled with proprietary design principles and low-resin carbon-fiber materials enhance feel during the golf swing.

Stewart Cink, a long-time user of UST Mamiya shafts, won the 2009 British Open playing Proforce AXIVCore shafts in his driver and three-wood. Cink also plays the company’s ATTAS shaft in his five-wood.

UST Mamiya produces 35 shaft models within the ATTAS and Proforce product lines:

  • ATTAS – Introduced in Japan in early 2009 and in North America last month, this premium shaft was immediately adopted by Tour players globally. Innovatively engineered with smooth-bending properties throughout the shaft’s constant taper design, more energy is transferred to the ball for instant feedback with greater distance. Ultra-thin carbon fibers optimize feel and allow the shaft to maintain its shape for consistent, accurate shots. ATTAS is distinguished by its tri-color look, notably atomic orange finish.

  • Proforce – Famous for its bright gold color and contributing to multiple major-tournament victories, Proforce shafts have been UST Mamiya’s flagship since winning the 1999 Masters. The Proforce V2 incorporates the company’s original “tip technology,” masterfully balancing torque, weight, spin and launch angle for extraordinary power off the tee. The latest in the Proforce series, AXIVCore features a true, four-axis woven carbon-fiber prepreg promoting stability and control and for increased ball speed.
