UST Wins Europe’s BMW Invitational

FORT WORTH, Texas – United Sports Technologies® (UST), a worldwide leader in golf shaft innovation and technology, added one more international victory to their 2004 total by winning the BMW Invitational Open in Germany. Perhaps laying claim to ‘the ultimate driving machine’ at the BMW, the new ACCRA® Tour 70 shaft by UST was the weapon of choice for the winning driver. In addition to the ACCRA, the champion wielded a Proforce® Classic shaft in his 3-wood.

On the home front, UST put up heavyweight numbers at the Buick Championship, scoring three Top 10 finishes. With 60 shafts in play at the Buick and another 63 shafts at the Envirocare Utah Classic on the Nationwide Tour, UST once again had one of the biggest weeks of the year for any shaft company.

Leading the way was UST’s IROD® hybrid shaft, the first shaft designed specifically for utility clubs and long irons. The ACCRA shaft series also had a great week with almost fifty shafts in play at the Buick Open and Utah Classic.  As hot as ever, the HTD® shaft registered double digits in both tournaments, and as usual the Proforce Classic was more than well represented.

“This was a huge weekend for UST,” says Gene Simpson, vice president of marketing and sales for UST brands. “Winning the BMW in Germany and scoring so well at the Buick Championship and Envirocare Utah Classic would be a great month, but to finish so well in one week is really spectacular.

“This is the first international win for our new ACCRA® shaft and the BMW is a great place to start. The ACCRA series may well be the best high-performance family of shafts we’ve ever designed.  From top to bottom, the SE, SC and Tour shafts stand up to any and all competition,” says Simpson. “But, the 2004 Tour season has been so fantastic it is hard to single out any of UST’s great shafts. The IROD is on its way to setting all kinds of performance and sales records for a hybrid shaft, and the HTD and Proforce are steady as a rock with double digit counts almost every week.”
